Hello, I’m Shuva
More than anything, I love a great story – whether it’s listening to a radio feature about a scientific discovery on my earpiece during a long run or indulging in a thought-provoking conversation with a new friend over a warm coffee-shop drink. My curiosity about the world compelled me to become a newspaper journalist who loved writing narrative features about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Then I decided to see the world – or at least a small part of it – and moved to the South American country of Suriname as a Peace Corps volunteer living part of my service on an isolated beach off the mouth of the Atlantic saving endangered leatherback sea turtles. It was overseas where my desire to document life with a camera morphed into wanting to capture people and places.
In the years since I’ve traveled extensively – both on my own and with Scott, with whom I exchanged wedding vows in 2012. The cultural experiences near and far continue to shape how I view life as an artist, wife, daughter, sister, friend and proud aunt to an adorable nephew. Since 2008 home has been in Eastern Iowa (Iowa City and Davenport). It’s where I grew up and where I aim to photograph who people are instead of what they look like – a philosophy that has garnered me publicity from local media. Whether I’m capturing a business professional, family or couple I yearn to connect with people and learn from their stories – then leave a permanent imprint that shows how amazing they are.
I’d be delighted to chat with you about what you want out of your photos, so feel free to explore my website or simply send me a message below.
