BLUE GRASS, Iowa – Lori and Todd met through their jobs 8 years ago and worked closely together for much of that time.
Todd: As I like to tell everyone, I fell madly, deeply and completely in “like” with Lori. Before long, I felt like Lori knew me better than anyone else ever had. Our “styles” and how we thought and acted were so similar (both perfectionists!!We always got along very well, thought about things so similarly, and just “fit” so well together.
The feeling was mutual and as Lori described it: Our thoughts and ideas were always “in step” with each other. We seemed to communicate very easily together and I enjoyed being around him.
They began to spend time together outside work and “like” evolved into “love”. Their first true date was a two-day trip to Chicago, which Lori says felt like both a lifetime and felt like it flew by in an hour. It was the simple gestures that let each other know they were having a great time – Todd, as he watched Lori get up from the table midway through a sushi dinner at a restaurant and walk away to “powder her nose,” and Lori as she saw him stand grinning ear to ear as she opened the door to the hotel room.
Todd: Not long after we started spending time together, I noticed that whenever we were apart for any length of time at all…I couldn’t breathe. It was like I had this huge hole in me, and I knew that Lori was the only one that could fill it. I realized that I loved her that much. I know this sounds cliché…but…Lori really does “complete” me. After all this time I finally found the one that I wanted to share everything with, do everything with and the one that made everything in my life better. And she is STILL that one. :-)
At one point Lori went out of town on an extended holiday and felt something was missing: While I was gone, I felt this huge void in my heart and soul. It was really powerful. I knew at that time I wanted and needed Todd in my life, I wanted to share everything with him. I missed our talks and our laughs. I made arrangements to come home early to see Todd. He is so worth everything we’ve been through to get to this point in our lives.
Today is the two-year anniversary of when Todd proposed to Lori at their favorite restaurant in Chicago.
Todd: After months of careful planning AND picking out a Diamond almost as beautiful as Lori, I asked her to marry me at dinner at Gibsons on Valentines Day evening in 2011…..and…..SHE SAID YES!!!! Everything worked perfectly….the manager and our waiter were in on it…..the timing of everything worked perfectly…..and the whole restaurant applauded when she said yes!! It was so fun having people come say congratulations to us as they were leaving their tables for the next hour or so. It was perfect!
Their love for each other is simply beautiful and I thank them for having me photograph their Beloved session, which we did a few weeks before Christmas in their Blue Grass home. Happy Valentine’s Day to them and to everyone else today. Enjoy your day with your loved ones, wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing.
And if you’re far away from those you love, tell them you’re thinking of them.
