I've been a photographer for more than 5 years and love what I do. I create images that show you WHO you are – not just what you look like. That's essential to why I became a photographer.

And then there's everything else, such as how the love of my life and I travel by letter of the alphabet. (Currently planning trip "I"). My love for nonfiction, even though Anne Shirley will always be my favorite. There's yoga, solitary bike rides, running and journaling. Cherishing the 3.5 months I had with giant leatherbacks on an isolated South American beach off the Atlantic coast. "Everything else" includes hot tea, hot chocolate, random culinary experiments, juicing and my addiction to certain sci-fi shows on Netflix and getting my news from Twitter. It's laughing, teaching, creating, redefining paradigms, living my adventure.... and meeting your wonderful self along the way!

BELOVED

What I found most compelling about the time Jenni and I shared with Shuva was the depth of the experience – and I mean ‘depth’ in the photographic sense. When I’ve been photographed in the past, it’s always felt two-dimensional, as though there was an unspoken resignation between the artist, the camera and me that what we were doing, let alone what the artist was creating, would be confined to a space measurable by x- and y- axes.

With Shuva, the experience was three-dimensional, and then some. Not only did she, and we, move around our settings and each other, we also had the opportunity through her questions and guidance – to move through time, and experience moments in our relationship that brought texture both to the experience of being photographed and to the finished product. What a gift!

As of January 2013 I’ve photographed BELOVED sessions for nearly 40 couples in nearly 20 cities throughout Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. The majority of couples have been photographed in their homes. Cities represented on this map are as follows:
