MOLINE, Illinois – Heartland Healthcare Center is a bridge for patients who are out of the hospital but not yet ready to go home. More than 95 percent of the center’s patients receive rehabilitation therapy, and more than 90 percent are able to manage their care by the time they go home. Only 18 percent of their patients end up having to return to the hospital, which is lower than the national average. I’ve photographed their patients and staff here a few times for Healthy Cells magazine.
Most recently, the center wanted to highlight the three physicians who oversee the care of the patients at Heartland Health.
Dr. Ahmed Khalafallah, a specialist in internal medicine… apparently when his photo was published in the magazine people were asking him for autographs.
Dr. Anthony Kwan is a physiatrist (not to be confused with a psychiatrist). He specializes in non-surgical orthopedics and treatment of patients with neck and/or low back pain, shoulder problems, elbow and joint problems, and fibromyalgia. About 25 percent of cases physiatrists see consist of stroke and spinal cord injury patients.
Last but not least… Dr. Hani Horani, also a specialist in internal medicine. I got him to laugh after asking him to say nonsensical phrases I use for kids.
Have a fantastic Monday, and a great week ahead!
